I have no idea. I think you should be proud of your age.

I am a woman and I don't think its impolite. Rather when ppl ask me my age i joke with them about it tell them a ridiculous age like 20 yrs older than wot I actually am. Well maybe when u really grow old u feel insecure so u kinda tend to lie and often avoid the question.
Hence its impolite. We'll know when we actually grow old

It's not impolite... but many females have vanity complexes. I think alot of men have issues with their ages too. On the internet most people lie about their age. You're supposed to add 5 years to every answer you get.

It has to do with perception and our cultural bias toward youth. Historically (or pre-historically, if you like), youth had a purpose: at the very onset of sexual maturity, you were most desirable as a mate because you could reproduce most successfully, thus guaranteeing the survival of the species (or your little clan, at any rate). Thus, over time, youth became socially desirable as we built communities, and survival changed from a matter of what you knew to whom you knew. Now, if you were young, you were physically desirable, but if you simply LOOKED young, you had the added benefit of experience and wisdom, in addition to attractiveness.
In this social environment, asking a woman her age throws doubt on her appearance and her competence-- either she's failing to make herself appear young, or she looks too young to have the experience to know anything about anything. Either way, it's considered impolite; people are just supposed to KNOW, or not care.

I never got it either, but chances are your young..
When you are 60 you don't want too many people knowing your an old lady. Same thing with weight. Never ask a woman her weight, even if she is rail thin.
