i used to say that i did not beleive in God.
but when things went wrong i blamed god, what god?, no idea, i would just curse at god.
then i realised that i did actually beleive in god as i was using him as way of getting my emotions in difficult times and it was good, there was someone or something in which to seek comfort in bad moments.
now, i also thank him when i am happy.

Atheist don't get together every Sunday to preach about why they don't believe in God. Atheist believe in their selves and realize that the world is much to complicated to understand and the far fetched story of the bible doesn't justify the reason of the world and life. Just accept the fact of not knowing. You don't have to know everything.
We don't even think about there being a God, we go on with our lives working day to day and loving our friends and families, just the same as some one who does believe in God. The only difference is that we don't think all that happens to us or around us is due to a God.

Personally, I feel more comfortable putting my trust that I will do the right things and that I can handle every situation that comes my way than hoping that somehow God will get me through it. I think putting your entire faith in God leads you to be somewhat lazier in trying to solve your own problems because you figure someone else will help you along the way. Then, if no one ever does come your way, you're stuck with the problem. I find people tend to wave the banner of God when good things are happening (i.e. scoring the winning touchdown in the superbowl) but if that same person drops the ball instead, God had nothing to do with it. If he had something to do with one, he had something to do with the other. Or neither.
There is far more evidence that explains how we evolved to our current state with trees/plants/animals we have than somehow God just decided one day to redecorate. If you believe in God, why would God create the dinosaurs and then send a meteor from space to blast them to hell so they no longer exist? Don't give me one of those "We cannot understand the way God works" or "I don't know, God works in mysterious ways" kind of answers. To me, that's just a cop out for saying "I don't know but I still believe anyways because I don't want to consider the alternative."

I don't get how theists don't understand that not believing isn't something that is really that hard to come by. When the mythology of the bible didn't make any sense to me anymore I just couldn't believe anymore.
It's not something I did to annoy countless believers I was just something that happened. I believe that life just happens to people and that when they die they just die, I don't need to know that my "soul" will go somewhere after my death because I don't even believe in "souls". I personally think that the whole reason that most believers believe is because they are afraid of going to "hell" so therefore they're basically being scared into believing.
JB are you trying to say that all atheists are immoral? That is completely untrue, aren't most murderers and rapists Christian? Yeah they sure love all people don't they? Don't most Christians discriminate against certain people and basically say that its in their bible to do so? I discriminate against no one. I treat all people exactly the same and I don't need to be afraid of some all powerful "god" to keep me in line. So I think that makes me a better person than you, I mean I'm a good person just because I'm a good person and you are only a good person because you are afraid to go to hell.

I looked at what religion was trying to say and what science was saying and well basically, religion is man made with Messiahs and Prophets or should i say fortune tellers, they are all cults and they all aim to repress and brainwash, i look at the Universe as the supreme being and have come to my own conclusion that the Universe is eternal, it has always been there no so called invisible god made it or anything else, we evolved, we are here so it would stand to reason that we had to have come from somewhere which means we are going to somewhere.. we are eternal living IN eternity, the answer is there is no answer everything just is, the sooner we get rid of religion the sooner the human race can be as one.

There was nothing in the God theory that seemed to correllate more with my view of the world than a materialist viewpoint. For me, everything is determined by the material. Yes, you may say that that is a plan of God's, but you don't have a counter-argument when I say that it might not be - we're just two sides of a very thin line. I personally just find my side more credible.

I'm not sure. I believe in God as sort of Spirit that flows in everything and everybody. NOT as a sort of man in the sky. If God exists, why does he let bad things happen to good people? Is he ambivalent, mean, not really controlling everything? I've onlt read like 30% of the Bible so maybe I don't have it right. I don't see any evidence or manifestation of his workings. Everything has a reason for happening, mostly following the edicts in the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics (entropy). The 'unknown' things in life, i don't automatically attribute to a supernatural being the way my cavemen ancestors did. It just means science hasn't explained that particular 'unknown' yet, whatever that unknown may be.
Those who say 'god works in mysterious ways' or look at the sunset, butterflies, and nature in general as proof of god's existence are using 'cave man' logic, ie, the unexplained or unkown are the work(s) of god.

I don't think they truly appreciate this question. The question for all concerned is if believing in God is believing in love, courage, nobility and honor then this is how a godly person lives. If you do not believe in God, then what do you do in your daily activities?

I don't feel the need to actively 'practice' my disbelief in God... I just don't think he exists.
So where you might look around at nature and say "wow God made all this"; I look around and say "wow evolution made all this".
And where you get through tough times by saying "God will help me through it", I get through tough times by saying "I can get through this".
It is not an active, daily denial - it is just a lack of believing.

Your Q sounds like I, an atheist, by some scarred souls Satanist, need to have some anti-god practices?
HUMANS, women and mostly men, made god to their own image of themselves.
Our race should have outgrown explaining the world, nature and ourselves through misplacing responsibility on purpose of telling bed-time stories to adults...
