Yes, I've always thought that women should be able to play full contact hockey. We don't break anymore than men do.

I wouldnt mind it if they did, but I dont think it is going to happen. One of the reasons is that girls are over aggresive. I have two sisters that play college hockey, and there games are very aggresive, that might have to do with not being able to check though. I am not sexist, as my sisters do play, but women do not play on the same level as the men do. Look at the difference in shot speed and everything. The womens hardest shots usually are high 70's. Mens hardest shot is over 100 mph. That is a big difference. But also the men play at a different level and faster pace then women(believe me, I have seen many games). The olympic womens team trains against mens college teams, the college teams have beat them. College hockey is two steps below NHL. So maybe women should be able to play check hockey, but not for the purpose of preparing for mens hockey. The best thing would be if more women played and they could develop a WNHL, but that probably wont happen considering the mens NHL doesnt even get good ratings, womens sports usually have lower ratings. It would be nice to see though.

Most women who get scholarships and play at the college level do know how to check and have played in checking leagues. Unfortunately there still are not a lot of girls only leagues in this country and the best girls/women play with the boys. Cammie Granato's brother Tony (NHL player) has said that his sister is a better player then he is. It's not the lack of checking that keeps women out of the game. It's sterotyping!

Yes.

It's a critical last step for women being able to get ready to integrate with professional hockey, to be able to play on pro teams with men.

Are parents/coaches/the world/the press ready to see girls checking girls?

I don't know.

Maybe? Maybe not yet.

But yes.

I think women should play hockey as it is meant to be played (checking). No checking is allowed in women's hockey and that is BS.
