Headline is

Nestle to buy Jenny Craig for $600 million

I um, a leading chocolate manufacturer is buying a weight loss company?

What is this, yin and yang at work?

I don't get it.

Yeah, the press release mentions they want to get into healthier foods.

But, I still don't get it.

Thoughts?

Is this really that hard of a news article? Clearly Nestle wants to support getting healthy. It's just like the cigarette industry. You know all those Truth commercials? Those are thrown together (including funded for) by the Cigarette company. Did you know that? They're tyhe only company in the world that has to have advertisments AGAINST their comapany, as well for it Nestle is just doing a little bit of the same so they dont look like bad people;

It's just a sign of the times my friend. This is economic globalization at its best. The gas companies will own the car companies, the stock companies will own the bank, and the candy manufacturers will own the diet companies. They will make sure you and I will drive, pay and eat whatever it is they want us to.

That brings to my mind the Insurance companies that own the Body Shops, and steer the customers to their own shops, trying to put really good shops, like the one that my family owns, out of business. If you get in a wreck and have to deal with these jerks, find a reputable shop to fix it, you don't have to go where they tell you to. And you may be eligible for a Rental car as well...they don't tell you that.

Doesn't Nestle already make some weight loss and healthy stuff? There's nothing wrong with it this way they can have a hand in making people fatter and making them skinnier.

It is called horizontal intergration. Lets get as much of the market as we can. There are lots of other examples out there, it is sort of fun to look for them.

Chocolates don't make you fat. But eating a helluva lot of chocolates will.
