Because the women who go in groups to the washroom are extremely social in outlook and don't want to miss a chance to chat and gossip and the others go along to make sure they're not the subject matter of that washroom chat-fest. The men for some reason always seem to think they're being talked about but that's their insecurity kicking in.
In actual fact, it's just to keep each other company.

Some woman are friendly and gregarious in nature and like to enjoy each others company. In particular, if woman are out with mixed company (business or social), they like to solicit each others opinions concerning the topic of conversation just discussed or the present company.
If you ask me, woman are smarter and friendlier than men in this respect. Men are far too "gender conscious" or insecure to do this.

Because its more embarrassing going alone;people tend to watch you as you walk past. So if you have a friend with you, then it takes your mind off all the people staring at you.

Because we have something to say or tell a person, that could not be said to everyone. We are women, we seldom do anything alone.
