PRABHAKARAN IS VERY MUCH CHRISTIAN.

Anton Balasingham, theoretician and main spokesman of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, is a christian.

Christians keep the old Hindu names and castes names even after conversion. It is interesting that when Christians do questionable things they call even converted Tribals or castes or groups as Hindu!!.

LITTE is Tamil but not run by Hindus. not all Tamils are Hindus.

By the way Tamils are natives of Srilanka so its their land too. Conflict in Srilanka is too complicated to give such generalising comments as yours.

This conflict is a little deeper than that.

The LTTE - Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam - are a Tamil people (speak Tamil, practice Hinduism) who claim ancestral ownership to the northern and eastern parts of the island of Sri Lanka. The remainder of the island is predominantly Sinhalese (speak Sinhala, practice Buddhism).

Who was there first is a question for the anthropologists and archaeologists to decipher. However, at some point the majority Sinhalese grew less tolerant of the presence of the minority Tamils and outlawed their language and culture. Whether this was done in response to Tamil-initiated violence, or as a ploy for the majority Sinhalese to keep the minority Tamil disenfranchised is up for debate.

Violence begat violence. Sinhalese military units were reported to have burned villages and murdered thousands of innocent Tamil civilians. Tamil Tigers (among other groups) claim that they have bombed and assaulted only military targets of the Sinhalese, and civilian deaths are only "collateral damage".

It must be remarked that for a 20-year-period, the Sinhalese government made some suspicious rules under military law: autopsies could be forbidden (amnesty international speculates that this is to prevent confirmation of summary executions - where the government would execute someone without legal basis), foreign press were expelled, and all news services came under government control. These are interesting actions and are dangerous to a democratic society.
