iva, I'm asking because we have a cat that we took over when our son died. It was his cat and was very sick. The dog we just recently got. I love dogs, and am learning to love cats. I guess I just need some positive input. Thank you.

i think the differences are when u own a dog u take them out with a cat they take themselves out.. Cats are more independent were a dog will be by your side no matter what and love u no matter what.

Cats come potty trained from birth, are self-cleaning, don't require constant attention, can be left alone for a few days, and don't need to be walked.

I like dogs, but having a dog can be as time consuming as having a child. Cats are a lot more low maintenance.

Cats don't smell bad like dogs do (and don't need regular baths).

Cats can be left alone for a day or two without worry (if litter trained), and if you go on vacation you can just have someone come in and feed them every other day.

Cats don't get as lonely.

Cats aren't as destructive, especially if you have them declawed.

Cats aren't as noisy.

Cats won't typically stick their nose in the crotch of your visitors.

if u own both then why are u asking? cats are their own masters, so either you want somebody to whom u will be a master so u prefer dogs, or you dont want and u prefer cats and their free spirit. i knew a guy who had a crosbred of a wolf and a german shepherd, wow, that was an animal - dog´s intelect but a free spirit. this way i realized what the thousands of years of breeding dogs behaviour had done.. dogs were actually intentionally bred to make them look up to man. to think man is the leader of their pack. and nothing such happened to cats. nobody fiddled with their minds so you cannot be their master

Cat are generally quieter.

Cats don't need to be bathed regularly.

You don't have to take a cat for a walk, or let them out in the morning.

Cats can use a litter box, my dog won't even try. Both give love and affection. Only my dog comes when I call.

A cat requires less care, but a dog knows his place.

Cats are better if you leave often, they just need extra food, water, and litter. Dogs are more high maintenance.

You don't have to walk a cat and a cat is more independant.
