It is very sad that they would walk out over money, however....do you know that the average income in Togo is less than $400 a yr? For what the country (team?) is getting paid for the appearance the can afford to set the players up for life! It is all well and good to say "do it for pride" but this is THE opportunity of a life time for these guys, maybe the only chance they would have to help their families. We could say we would do it for free but we obviously all have computers (that probably cost at leat 5 yr annual income for them) and enough to eat!!!

It's okay when you earn substantial sums like most of the players we will see. But for smaller teams like Togo it costs the players a lot to be there. Okay flights, accomodation etc is payed for but what about wages. They have families to support and without wages the fact that they are representing thier country won't put food on thier tables. They can't go do after-dinner speeches and get apid for it, that culture does not exist in Togo or other poor nations. The Toganese Football Federation gets huge sums of money from TV rights and a not-so-small amount from attendances, advertising, sposorship etc. No one can seriously argue that the players don't deserve their share of it. We are not talking about a bonus either but just the basic wages that they were promised. Disgraceful? More like arrogance on your part to call them disgraceful. Would you work for your country for nothing even though you are entitled to something?

I think it is fair enough... some of their players don't even have regular club teams and so they had to quit their jobs just to play. While they should do it for pride, their association get alot of money for Togo representing in the World Cup, and some of that should goto their players!

I myself, like you I'm sure, would do it for free... but they shouldn't be put in that situation.

They beat Senegal to qualify which is a good achievement... it's a shame that the players greed and the associations stupidity has resulted in such bad preparation for the game.

From what I've all heard of Togo, I just think they are greedy and terrible. What they earn is already more than a normal man earns in their country and they still want more? Just be thankful, I earn nothing (even though I'm just 16 xD)!
