Metals are in the 1st and 2nd vertical columns in the Modern periodic table. They have 1 or 2 electrons in their outermost orbit. These electrons are easily excited by the energy of the visible light. Thus they can reflect visible light.

The other metals constitute the 3rd, 4th & 5th rows of the periodic table. These metals also have outermost electrons that can be excited by visible light.
