There older stuff truly, was punk rock INSOMNIAC, NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL AN ALBUM!!
Nowadays they have become too mainstream losing a lot of fan in return, American idiot is a disgrace to the green day name POP TO THE CORE!!

Absolutely, although this is a strictly subjective topic.
Comparing the original punk bands to those of today would be fruitless. Music changes, it's a cycle like everything else in life.

They used to be, but now I think they're more a band with punks in it, rather then a punk rock band.

Green Day are NOT punk!!! They are Corporate power pop and copy riffs from bands who have done it before!!! They're posers if the call themselves punk!! Listen to The Buzzcocks like another person said here and you WILL hear where they got their sound!!

They are an American punk band. American punk rock is very different to original British punk rock.

Nope,they are a wanna be punk band,real punk was in the late 70's,the clash,sex pistols,hersham boys,now that was punk music.none of this american wanna be rubbish.

Got to agree with damned fan, its sad that people think they are Punk. If people really want to listen to Punk they should ignore this pop crap and go listen to Misfits, Dead Kennedys, The Damned, The Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols etc.
