My fiancee' and a lot of my family is in Vietnam. I can give you pretty accurate information from there, but only a good assumptin for the Phillipines and Indonesia.

The exchange rate between VND (Vietnam Dong) and USD (U.S. Dollar) has lingered just under 16,000:1 for a while. The cost of living difference is difficult to measure because of the difference in cultures oif the U.S. compared to third-world countries. My best guess is it's around 8 to 1, meaning that it costs eight times more to do or buy the same thing in the U.S. as it does in Vietnam.

I can take my fiancee' and her cousin out for a seafood dinner that will blow away anything that Red Lobster can serve, and it wil cost me less than $10 including beer. Red Robin probably can't touch it for less than $100.

I can hire a driver and car to take my fiancee' and myself to wherever in Vietnam for about $40/day. The same in the U.S. could be as high as $500 by comparison.

I can get a very nice hotel room for about $15/night, while the same would cost $80-$100/night in the U.S.

One of my best friends is Fillipino, and he says that it's cheap there too. We compared a few items, and I believe the cost of living is about 5:1 compared to Vietnam's 8:1. Indonesia is prpobably somewhere in between.

Local poor people are living in US$ 1 per day. That's real.
While the intermediate rich people need about US$ 10-20 per day.
Rich people will survive a nice living with minimum of US$ 50 per day.
Foreign tourist can enjoy middle star hotel living style for at least US$60-80 per day.
All assumption are including everything from food, cloths, place to stay, trasportation, etc.

Yeah, I'm trying to learn to just celebrate being alive and making everyone I come in contact with feel good just from my vibe. Don't want to put anyone else down. I used to be a negative person but I'm getting more and more positive every day.
