well I just looked up both engines available for a 01 Grand Am, and neither one have a timing belt as I suspected, so the answer is $ 0.00.
now if you want to change your timing chains, that's adiiferent question. If you want to change your serpintine belt, that is yet another question

I'm unsure of price, because I do my own work, but if it is just that the belt is worn out, then that will be the cheapest scenario. If the belt broke/slipped and pistons hit valves, the question is how much does an engine for a 2001 pontiac grand am cost.

Free if you let me do it. Plus cost of the belt. Plus you have to feed me too. For free it will take time to change the belt. Or just take it to someone that works on cars. Now depend who you go too. A dealer pay out of the *** for it. So lets say low side about $150.00 for labor up to $400.00 it depends who you go to. Have a friend that works on cars. Maybe you can jew them down to $50 Last time I had one replace it was $100 but again that was for the belt the tow to the garage and labor and that was 20 years ago too.

About $45.00 - $65.00 an hour, plus the belt, average time : 2 - 4 hr job depends on the mechanic's work ethics and expertise .

call a few shops before you call the dealer.and most dealers have a high mark up price on parts and services. be aware of what you pay for and why !!!! .
