I heard they were the same fuel that you can pour diesel in your hom heating tank, if you run a No# 2 fuel oil in your furnace.

They are not the same, however they are similar. Yes you can run diesel in your furnace, but running #2 heating oil in any vehicle is not recommended, due to its impurities. Your vehicle does not burn as hot as a furnace, therefor you would run the risk that your vehicle would not run properly or even start for that matter. your vehicle would be damaged.

Well yes. We bought a 206 and it failed its mot (im in the UK) 1.9 diesel non-turbo. Got bored with it lying behind the house so fired it up and ran it on various different fuels. First one we tried was the home-heating stuff as you call it. Out of the funky black tanks? ran fine, just don't use it all the time, it will wear the seals on the pumps. Dont even touch red diesel. And erm...just as a slight side note for you... Don't run a car on nothing but Wynns power boost. Big cracks in the block and stuff...

the sulfa content is high in # 2 heating oil, diesel burns cleaner

Same thing only they color diesel fuel so truckers have to pay the extra tax on it
