I kinda always had the impression that 65 was the magic number.
Of course, senior discounts start at 55.
Maybe, elderly isn't a specific age, though. It sounds more like an adjective used to describe someone becoming feeble because of age.

For the senior citizen discount you need to usually be at least 65 and I think that is the age for elderly as well.

Depends on the person...I think "elderly" sounds quite a bit older than "senior citizen" though, so I'd say mid-seventies to mid-eighties, depending how healthy they are. My dad is 69 but doesn't come across as elderly at all. My husband's grandma is I think 82 and only recently started to.

It depends on what age of person your asking. I think my kids think I am elderly and I am only 38.

To me, people cannot be judged elderly by his age, it would be judged by the state of mind he/she has. I know so many people who are much much older than me (though I am only 24), are much energetic and enthusiastic than me. Can we call those people old? I can not say. I know my boss, he is right now 72, but we call him "young man of 72".
Regards
