As My own nation failed to qualify(Ireland) i am resigned to viewing the word cup as a neutral this year, And asides perhaps Argentina i havnt seen many of the favouriates performing well at all and the lesser nations have confined themselves to getting draws , could this result in one of the worst world cups in a long time

No, It has inspired me, some good games by ghana, costa rica & cote de ivory... really big teams struggled with these guys. good matches, lots of hits and misses happens in all the WC, watch out for some more interesting games, may the best team win.

You are right, aside Argentina and Spain ( just a game each), players, teams and games are mediocre. Hopefully, it will get better after the second round. The last two world cups with a few good teams were 82 and 86. France was a good winner in 98, maybe the only team. 90, 94 and 2002, a complete disaster.
