Yes , its a bit risky now to downgrade by trying to remove IE7. They share files or overlays some files on IE6 when you upgrade so you will have to use the ADD/Remove program option in your control panel to remove IE7.
Then go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1e1550cb-5e5d-48f5-b02b-20b602228de6&displaylang=en and download and install IE 6.0 again.

to remove internet explorer from your computer
use the add remove programmes tool to locate and remove internet explorer.
then once the uninstall has been completed on the system reboot the computer in safe mode with networking (this allows access to your cd/dvd drives.
with your original windows operating system disk in the drive you will need to run the repair tool located on the disk.
alternatively if you have system restore running on windows XP try locating the installation point for the day befor you installed ie 7. then hit the restore button. this will shut down your pc and start te restore tool. make sure any new favourites and other files created since ie7 was installed are backed up to either a second hard drive or a removeable disk cd-rw or dvd-rw.
after the system re-starts then you should find that ie6 is back.
the problems you are experiancing could be that your internet cache is full or you may have a virus or other spyware problem.
use your virus scanner to check for viruses. if you don't have a virus scanner try going to trend micro and downloadinga free trial of there internet security tools. alternatively another good site to go to is www.symantec.com and run there online scan tools.
you may even like to try www.bitdefender.com for afree trial of it's anti-malware tools. you can also try downloading the yahoo toolbar with antispy "toolbar.yahoo.com" install and run once installed clck on the yellow icon that looks a little like a target then follow the instructions.
you may even like to try the windows defender from www.microsoft.com you can also get ie7 help direct from microsoft. just browse the site for the information you want.
I nearly forgot IE7 has built in security features so the settings in ie7 security under the tools section may need to be adjusted if there is a site you trust that is currently blocked. it could also be a problem with the website you are attempting to connect to. so just check your settings and adjust as you need them.
I hope the info helps a little.

Go to download.com and try Mozilla Firefox - I had to do this about a year ago as I was having major problems viewing web pages in Internet Explorer and I can honestly say I haven't looked back. Look at the following link:
http://www.download.com/Mozilla-Firefox/3000-2356_4-10545919.html?tag=pdp_prod
It's free to download too
