Is ‘Respect’ for Authority, Discipline, Parents, Teacher’s, and even in some cases ‘self’, a dieing and forgotten quality, when it comes to both males, & females in the UK: aged 5-18? & If so, what do you feel can/or should be done about it?

I think there has been a huge decline in standards of behaviour. I live in reasonably wealthy area but even here there is a total lack of respect for other people or the local environment. Young kids leave litter all over the place and take shortcuts through gardens and flowers. If anyone tells them off they ignore them or start to swear back. Older youths drink in the streets and are loud and abusive to any passers-by. Likewise they cannot be told off for their behaviour - or they become aggressive. I am in my 30s - I did similar things but would have run a mile if challenged by an adult - no way would we have answered back or threatened an adult. I occasionally need to visit the local school as part of my job - the respect for teachers there is well short of what you would expect in reasonable society. Violent and aggressive pupils have no respect for the school authorities. I have tried to instill ' respect' to my children and they are not too bad but i think they are learning negative behaviours from their peers as they see them getting away with it. TV and the celebrity culture has got to be a major influence, the amount of swearing in movies and tv is totally un-neccessary. I feel that the the glorification of drunken, drug using, morally corrupt celebrities in the press and on tv is a disgrace - they are pathetic role models for young people and yet these are their heroes. As for politicians a more corrupt bunch of self serving you could not find. Show me one who has not had his nose in the trough and has lined his own pockets while romping with the hired help. What to do about it ?Bring back the birch for young offenders and the cane in schools - ban all swearing from tv and movies - actually enforce litter laws - start treating vandalism as serious crime. National service for all eighteen to twenty year olds. Ah that feels better.... I do like a good rant.

Yes,especially for teachers, look at how you spelled DYING. Lack of respect goes on everywhere in the world. Youth where I live, they curse in front of you, even hit you. You can't go talk to parents because they are the ones raising the kids to do this. I have 6 children and they are respectful for the most part, because I taught them that respect is a powerful weapon. The only thing you can do is network with a few trustworthy parents and keep in touch because most kids will tell their parent about the wrongdoings of their friend, therefore you have the info to pass on to the kids parent. I guess you would call it snitching, but it helps if they know it'll get back to their parents.

'dying' is the correct word, but did you have to ask this question in 4 categories of Yahoo answers, looking to see if you got opposing answers from some of them?
