Does Counter Strike: Source require Half-life 2 in order to run?

I want to buy it but I don't want half-life, just counter strike. I want to know if you need to have half-life 2 installed to run it.

No, you can get a Counter Strike stand alone CD.

But, if all you have is the HL2 Deluxe set and CD came with it, Yes.

Because they all require Steam.

1/2 existence 2 = maximum proper marketing campaign in existence. CSS became the rennisance of FPS's and it places COD to shame. I woould in my opinion bypass with CSS becasue im no longer a marketing campaign kinda guy i love mulitplayer yet in case you want a good marketing campaign its definatley 1/2 existence 2.
