First of all, we MUST agree that TATA is our own car. Of course we got it designed by an Italian Studio but we must appreciate that this is 'our own desh ki gaadi'.

If you track the history of major car makers, they had the same problems as TATA is having---quality. No car maker, in the world, came out with a product that was trouble free. They learnt, corrected the mistakes, slowly---gradualy. TATA is doing the same...they are learning and improving. But again, we must apppreciate the gamble Ratan Tata took. From Trucks to Cars...phew...it is just like comparing a transport plane with a Gulfstream aircraft. But both have their own identities & utilities.

I believe TATA is building a huge data bank where they discuss & decide the next strategy to improve their cars, in their morning meetings, in their plants.

The only problem is the customers don't have time & that knowledge level to bang TATA's head and say..."what the hell are you doing" so that they get some sleepless nights. I am not saying that they are not having sleepless nights...but they will become more & more aggressive....and that should lead them to come out with great cars.

Mercedes A class (a recent model) was dragged to court as the car went turtle during an automotive test in Sweden (that test is known as SLALOM test, where the car is driven at different speeds in CW & CCW directions to calculate the 'Oversteer' & 'Understeer' characteristics. That car was 'Oversteer'. What do you say about Mercedes. They are one of the best car makers in the world. Germans are the best car makers. But they failed with this model. Frankly, I never liked Mercedes, except it's Shape. I would prefer to Subaru or Honda over it. The dynamics of these cars are better.

So, what the point in writing all this. I want to emphsize that over a period of time TATA will improve and will come out with better models. It's a matter of time. Citeroen did a lots of mistakes and during my recent visit to France I saw that some cars are 'pigs' as far as shape is concerned and their engines too are noisy.

Let us work, think and support our country products like the Japanese do. Then only we can expect our products to be better than others.

TATA is my country's product. By the way, I must write that I don't own any of the TATA cars and I am not their representative. And I agree that if TATA takes too much time to improve their cars on the consumers expense then whatever I have written above is crap.

Let us wish goodluck to TATA and wait for better cars ASAP.

There isn't a "Toyota of Germany." Well...I guess Toyota's quality has been slipping a little lately. So maybe there is. Anyhow, the only German automaker who has never had a serious decline in reliability has been BMW. VW and Mercedes Benz have both made some cars that last forever, but neither has been doing much of that lately. But BMW has never been world-beating in its reliability, either, and they've had the 7 series, the early 90s 5 series V8s, and the 8 series to mar their record. The worst Toyota has in recent memory was the head gaskets on the Supra. edit: Volvo is Swedish, and so is Saab.

If they up the quality and start thier own engine programme like rover did then theres no reason why they can't, in the future, compete on the world stage

It is highly unlikely. These 2 cars are more about hype than quality and will suffer from the rising competition from the Global manufacturers
