ok theres this boy who i like. I went to the cinema with a group of mates and he was there. We saw a scary film and i got scared and he like hugged me and asked me if i was ok during the really scary bits. The during the last like 15 minutes he held my hand.
Then later he told my friend he "just wanted to be friend" I have no idea what to do.. oh and he has a girlfriend who hates my guts cos apparently everyone thinks we like each other.

Sounds to me He likes you for more then a Friend. He is telling People that He's just a Friend I think because He is afraid that His Girlfriend is going to find out about His feelings towards you. Pay close attention on how He acts when your in the same room with Him.

It means he likes you but he's denying it because of his girlfriend.
She would not like you if she knew that you are after her man, but she would only "hate" you if she believed that you had a chance with him. Otherwise she would just feel sorry for you.
So in your words "everyone thinks we like each other", his girlfriend is threatened by you and he held your hand in the dark for 15 mins. Come on fella, no one finds a movie that scary.
He is flirting with you, but right now he wants to keep his relationship with his girl. The best you can do is keep cheerful and friendly around him, try to make him jealous by having other guys interested in you

maybe:
a. he's just really sweet.
b. there's really a connection between you two but he's tied w/ his girlfriend..
c. maybe he's making someone jealous
d. he really means the "friend intention" and maybe will later go to a "more than a friend intention"
e. he's got your attention
ask a friend that you can trust that is also his friend if he's -in some way- attracted to you or what he really feels for you..
or don't do anything yet... wait for him to make the first move...
it's really up to you though... on how you would react in an unplanned situation..

he obviously likes you a little to be hugging you and holding your hand. the only thing to do is Talk to him and tell him how you feel and ask him why he did what he did.
As he has a girlfriend he may not be happy with her and may be is interested in a relationship with you instead.
he may simply be hedging his bets in case his current girlfriend dumps him.
the only way to know for sure is ask him face to face.

two ideas
1). he only feels for you as a friend and was comforting you as a friend because you were scared, and hes also said to your friend that he just wants to be friends, or
2)he likes you and took the opportunity to get closer to you at the movies, and by saying that he just wants to be friends he only trying to convince himself he doesn't feel anything for you 'coz he's in a relationship and doesn't want it to get out, or cause any problems.....
two possibilities, you'd be able to decide seeing as though your going through it - sorry... watch for how he acts around you (personality/behaviour), or ask him straight out; if everyone thinks you like each other talk to him about it "everones saying that you like me.....and i just wanted to know how you really feel" or something like that

sounds to me like he likes u, he wouldnt have held ur hand otherwise. a bit strange..... maybe he just said to the others he just wants to be ur friend so he doesnt get caught out by his girlfriend

this boy DEFINATLEY likes you but doesn't want to hurt his current girlfriend and he doesn't want to cause trouble, he is confused and he doesn't know what to do. or maybe he is just a player and wants to have his cake AND eat it, my7 advice to you is to just ask this boy where you stand, just say something like..... "there are rumours going round that you like me, is this true...." then see what his reaction to that is.
