A cover letter is sent along with your resume to a prospective employer. It is a basic greeting telling them that you are applying for a particular job.
Letter of application is the same thing.

What is letter of application ? Application itself is a letter and covering letter shows an attachment with some detail, or any attachment to the covering letter. write your CV with covering letter stating the post you are applying for, advertisement reference and small summary of your CV in few lines. Your core responsibility which you did with previous employment and what you want to do, summarize and conclude with closing paragraph.
