Laptop computers are somewhat larger than notebooks and will accommodate a built-in disk drive unit and; optionally, a floppy drive unit. That is, a CD ROM drive is either built into the unit or the unit has a built-in bay that will accommodate a removable CD ROM drive.
Notebook(Is what I think you meen) computers will allow you to attach, via cable, a CD ROM drive. Since the drive is not built into the unit, notebooks are smaller and lighter than laptops. Hence, a notebook is an ultra small laptop. Another way to look at it is a notebook is about the size (or a little larger than) of a real [binder] notebook.
This was the initial concept anyway. There's not much separating them now and it only depends on what the companies want to call their product.
ThinkPad is the brand name for a highly successful range of portable laptop and notebook computers originally designed and sold by IBM. Since early 2005 the ThinkPad range has been manufactured and marketed by Lenovo, which purchased the IBM PC division.
If you really ment notepad then
Notepad is a simple text editor included with all versions Microsoft Windows since version 1.0 in 1985.
or in the stone age
A notebook (also notepad, writing pad, etc.) is a virgin (not printed with text) book of paper on which notes may be written. It was invented in 1920 by Australian J. A Birchall, who first stuck paper together and added a cardboard backing, rather than leaving it to be loose leaf. The paper may be blank or include pre-printedhorizontal and/or vertical lines to assist the writer in keeping the text straight. While many people use notepads in their daily lives, they are most commonly associated with students, who often carry individual notebooks in order to take notes for different courses they take in school.

Hi,
Laptop, notebook and ThinkPad are all mor or less one and the same.
The IBM People call the Laptop's as ThinkPad and Its patented by IBM. And they call their Desktops as Think Centre.
There is a Small Difference between an Laptop and Notebook. Typicall as the name suggest's Laptop is the one which you can keep it on you lap or table on do your work. But where as a notebook can be really used as a noot book and technically speaking there is a different processor and different Operating system for Notebook. Notebooks come's with a Styllus(a pen) with which you can scribble on the screen. Notsbook's screen can be folded 360 degree and is more weight less when compared to a laptop. and notebooks does not come with a built in CD ROM Drive and any optical drive and all of them have to be connected externally.

While the terms "laptop" and "notebook" are often used interchangeably, "laptop" is the older term, introduced in 1983 with the Gavilan SC.

All are different names of a mobile computing device. I think you have misrepresented Notebook as Notepad. Ironically, these names point to a computer that you can carry. Usually, you tend to use them by placing them on your laps, hence the name Laptop. Also called notebook because, its more or less similar to a book in dimensions & physical appearance. Its called thinkpad by IBM because, this is a computer that has thinking ability... ;) complex calculations are performed by a smart machine!
