It could be the saw. But there is this lovely instrument called a theremin or thereminvox. Remember "Good Vibrations" by the beachboys or "Whole Lotta Love", by Led Zeppelin. ? Also that instrument. At least a version of it.

It was invented by Russian Léon Theremin in 1919. You play it almost like conducting an ochestra... you don't actually touch it. How cool is that specially when thinking 1919.

It's idea is based on the principal of heterodyning oscillators, the theremin generates an audio signal by combining two different but very high frequency radio signals.
