yahoo no lonher supports java based games...enter chess through yahoo messenger

It's because you dont have JAVA installed correctly. Just got to www.sun.com and download the "JRE" which is JAVA RUNTIME ENVIRONMENT. Install it. Your game will run.
But beware it you use a dial up connection. JRE is nearly 16MB to download. It'll take nearly 2-3 haours to download.
