The best aspect of the Harry Potter books is the author and her ability to focus her imagination into such cohesive writing. She amazes me sometimes, in the intricacy of her plots and the names she gives to people and things. She took her knowledge of her child and others, and created something that can hold their attention and teach them the difference between right and wrong, good and evil. She's done a good thing here.
All the hullabaloo about the books being evil or turning kids to witchcraft is just the ignorance and stupidity of people who have never read the series. The TV show 'Bewitched' got a lot of this same nonsense when it came out. It amazes me that even in the 21st century, the very WORD witchcraft, no matter how it is used, can stir up such a reaction in people.

I believe these books are amazing because they actually make you think. These books always seem to refer back to little things you never think of being a big deal at the time, but 3 or 4 books later they will hit back upon something that seemed irrelevant in book 1 or 2. I have found my daughter going back to the first few books and reading them again because things have come up in the later books that were touched upon in book 1 or 2 and are now explained and now they make sense. I am just happy to see her read and be so passionate about something. No... she is not now practicing witchcraft, these books are NOT REAL PEOPLE! I guess those of you who grew up playing D&D (like the dorks in my school) believe they were really living out there life via the game. Get real people.

I love the story, but what makes it the most fun is the little side stories and details in the background such as how there was a bunch of girls trying to date Harry Potter in the sixth book or Quidditch in the early books. The book really knows how to draw you into the mindset of a school.

Reading Harry Potter is like going to the best school that you never had an opportunity to go to. You are in attendance with them and you are just as shocked about the outcomes as the characters are. You get to see characters you missed and situations you never dreamed of. I cherish the time I spend with those books.

The best thing about the entire Harry Potter series is that they will quickly pass away and more legitimate literature will prevail. Read Watership Down for some real lit.

The amazing backstory behind it! Everything has its own explanation that connects to other events, making it feel like a real alternate world.
It's interesting, new, and helps you get away from daily problems for a while. It's not a book in which you have to think TOO much to understand... it captures you immediately and holds on to you hardly... so it's not easy to close it and put it on a shelf without reading the very last paragraph!

The most attractive quality is knowing that you are in the hands of a master story teller. Whether you like her style or not, you get the distinct impression that JKRowling knows EXACTLY what she is doing. There is nothing left to chance or neglect, everything is accounted for, and the whole world - settings but also especially characters - is so vividly described, with such confidence that you can't help but fall for it.

The world that Rowling created is both amazingly whimsical and fun yet dark at the same time. I think it's the little things that she adds that makes it so much fun. Like the way the people move in and out of trading cards, portkeys, just all the little magical things that are neat and fun. She has created great characters and interesting storylines.

Everything. The tale is well told and yes kids read it. My boyfriend bought the books for his neices and nephews and they all took turns reading it out loud to each other, all night long. It kept them busy because afterwards they read it alone. Then because they felt they needed to they reread all the books. Not bad HUH!!
