often, people don't have the luzury of having that choice.

In small to medium communities, it is a question of Do I or Don't I have broadband available.

You can go to a Radio Shack Store in your area and they can use their GET connected search engine to tell you what ALL of your broadband options are.

For example: In the central indiana area a person might have a choice between Comcast cable for $34.99 per month if they are a cable subscriber (19.99 for the first 6 months).

Or they could have ATT Yahoo DSL for $14.99 per month for the first year.

They might have Insight cable for $44.99 / month or Sprint for $34.99 / month.

They might have to choose a satellite option if none of the above is available.. (starting at $59.99 per month)..

All available options through radio shack have some sort of value added offer such as a free modem or a $50 or $100 gift card by mail or even BOTH...

This gift card can make the offer better than geting a LOWER monthly fee from somewhere else. (if it were available).

Most people have only about 2 choices in their area.

I have not seen anyone that could have both comcast and insight.

You usually only have ONE dsl choice because it is based on your phone system you already subscribe to. So you can't CHOOSE between ATT Yahoo and Sprint.
Sometimes earthnling pokse its head in and duplicates areas, but they are not usually the lowest choice of dsl, but sometimes, they are the ONLY choice because they fill in areas which the phone companies have failed to exploit yet.

Get your best deal up front, and sign only a one year contract.

You can change later if they try to raise your interductory rate.
You can always bargain with them later to lower your rate when they raise it.

ATT Yahoo, has two rates for tweo different speeds (if available).
The higher priced one is usually only $5 more than the lower priced one and is Double the speed. Well worth it.
