First, we need a little more details
Dose it get power?
Dose it work if you plug it into another computer?
Dose your computer work if you plug another monitor into it?
Is it a CRT or Flat panel

CRT's usually last for years and when they go out they usually lose either red, green, or blue. Flat panels usually last for 1 to 3 years, because the backlights inverters burn out. If it is a flat panel turn it and your computer on and shine a bright light onto the screen from an angle, and look around from different angles. If you can see a faint image either the power inverter or the back lights burned out, and it is time to get a new one.

Make sure the outlet the monitor is plugged to has power. Make sure the monitor is plugged to an outlet with power. Turn the power switch on and off, this may sometimes reset the monitor circuitry. If you have done all these task with power availiable and no results, it is time for a new monitor.

If your monitor is like on stand by mode, then it means there's faulty connection to the video adapter. Try power off your monitor, then unplug-replug the VGA cable before powering on again. if this doesn't work, disassemble your computer, remove your display adapter, and put it back in (make sure it's properly connected).

If your monitor is totally powered off (even you have the power on) then you need a new monitor, or you could call a technician.

What exactly is happening?

Does it power on at all?
Is it not coming up when the video card initializes?
Do you have another monitor or video card to try?

I had a problem with a MSI motherboard and an ATI card whereas the video card would not initialize on startup. Once I changed video cards I was OK.

Regarding the monitor pls. dont try to open & do some servicing (first aid) by yourself. It is entirely dangerous. Pls. call your system provider or hardware engineer.

Try two things:
- plug another monitor to your computer. If it is OK, try yours once more. Failure? It's gone.
-- else:
- plut your monitor to another computer. Is it OK? Maybe, problem is with your video card if not worse...
