When I was a kid there was one time I shot a bird with a bee bee gun and I felt really bad and never did it again. To this day I find no pleasure in shooting an animal. What about you?

First off whether you are a vegetarian, vegan or someone who likes meat, you have to kill something to sustain your life. If you eat pork, beef, chicken or any other kind of meat you are eating something killed by man. Hunting deer or some other kind of game animal is perfectly okay, if you use that animal for food and not waste it's flesh. There is no difference between killing a deer for food or a cow, they are both animals of equal worth. I killed my first deer at age sixteen. For 38 years my father supplemented his winter food storage with venison or elk meat rather than beef. Venison and elk meat are leaner, and for us was much less expensive, since we killed, butchered and preserved our own venison or elk meat. I felt a great sense of gratitude to the creator of the animal I killed and to the animal itself. By the way deer and elk populations are not lowered by hunting, they are lowered by access to food and the harshness of the winter, local fish and game boards limit the number of licenses. Poachers on the other hand are evil and cowards, they do have a unregulated negative impact on many species of wildlife.

I used to shoot helpless birds and squirrels from the tree tops as well. After a while, I guess that phrase "how would you feel if someone shot you while you were trying to hunt for food to feed your babies?" kept playing over and over in my head.

The goddess only put things for our survival. Even a vegetarian lives off death of a sort. In season I do harvest pigs and deer, but only for the pleasure of my survival.

I will never sacrifice an animal unless God tells me to.
