chicken pox and shingles are both a form of Varicella. Shingles is very painful. The varicella virus attaches to the nerve and the breakout bumps follow the dermatome line of the nerve. The breakout forms a linear line ( straight ). Usually in the flank area of the body, but any part can be infected. Once you have chicken Pocks as a child, your body has the varicella virus. When you are exposed again as an adult, your body recognizes the varicella and BOOM you have a reaction and that is shingles. There is no cure ... just symptomatic care until it runs it course.

I got shingles when I was 21 and they hurt like hell... its an adult version of the chicken pox, I got the chicken pox when I was 6, now I have 3 kids and I hope they dont get the pox so hopefully they wont have to suffer and I dont have to go through that again.

Shingles can happen at any time, but in order to get shingles you've had to already had the chicken pox. Shingles is another form of the chicken pox that happens to people who have already had them.

I'm pretty sure you can only catch shingles after u've had chicken pox. You get them from someone who has the chicken pox virus.
