I have a job interview at 11 tomorrow, and no holiday left to take, so I need to come up with an excuse as to why I won't be in work first thing in the morning! Any ideas?????

Right i think we have to be both creative and elaborate here.

I was the victim of a random (and rare) kidnapping. I walked to the local corner shop on Saturday to pick up some milk and was bundled into the back of a van at gunpoint. The men also threatened to rape me but that was by no means the worst part of the experience. Oh no.

I was taken to an unknown destination all the time being beaten with metal poles and other various torture instruments. I was then led at knife/gun point onto a cargo plane.

I was on the freezing cold plane for some considerable hours. Bound and gagged i managed to break free and then found that there was actually no pilot on the plane which I thought was rather bizarre. I managed to guide the plane down and came to a very rugged, and quite frankly, dangerous halt on the jungle floor.

Being rather disorientated i ran for what seemed like miles
until I ran out of energy and collapsed with dehydration. I disappeared into a daze of disturbing dreams for what seemed like an eternity. Until the point when .....

Anyway to be continued.

So due to the outstanding set of circumstances it is understandable that you were a little delayed. Offer some overtime and you'll be sorted.

The key thing here is realism. Keep it real

You could tell them you got your arm stuck in a cornflake box trying to get the free toy. Or phone your boss and say you've stayed at a friends house and your friend left for work before you and locked the front door, so you have to wait for him to come back and let you out. That could take hours.
Or tell them an old lady fell down in the street and you were helping her, put in some details about a minor head injury and her crying and shaking and you should be fine.
Or just phone in sick

Would it be possible to "flex" your schedule? Tell your boss that you have some personal family issues that need to be attended to. Ask if you can come in late and work late to make up the time. If your job allows the flexability you should be fine and your boss will appreciate that you are dedicated to making sure your job responsibilities are covered. If your job does not allow you to flex your schedule, maybe you could trade shifts with another employee.

I've used: My up stairs neighbor's toilet exploded and the plumber needs to get into my house to solve the problem and I don;t want a strange guy alone in my house, so I have to stick around and let him in and then lock up after he leaves.

I also used my dog has been vomiting all night and I have to run him to vet and then drop him off at my sister's house so someone can watch after him

Doctor/dentist appointment?! Or maybe just ring up first thing, say you are suffering a migraine and that you'll be in should you feel better. That way you might even get Brownie Points for dragging yourself in later on when you're 'still suffering'!!

Stolen from Dylan Moran. "i'm so sorry i'm late, so sorry, the site visitors replace into undesirable, undesirable site visitors. and that i had to accomplish a tracheotomy on a camel, making use of in user-friendly terms backyard shears. basically be honest! basically say: I knew you have been right here. do you comprehend the place i replace into? i replace into at domicile, I had a bun, and it replace into scrumptious, with the aid of fact I knew you have been waiting. i've got under no circumstances truly enjoyed you."

If you travel to work in a car tell them that your car broke down on your way to work and its in a really dangerous position and you have to wait for the tow truck to tow you to a garage. This worked for me when I slept in on morning and was 5 hrs late for work.

A personal doctors appointment. Make sure you emphasise that its really personal and then you won't get asked about it! Especially if you are female with a male boss!! They can't stand anything like that! lol
