What were the American commentators smoking when they said that the US was one of the great soccer nations? Or, when they blamed the referees for both red cards (on the US side) and stated that the referees should never play another game? Or, when they said that the US put a valiant effort, when the only goal they had was because of a self-goal?
AKA I'm mad at them.

I do not know wich country you watched the game in or what network but i watched it over here in England and the commentators thought the referee had a decent game because at some times it was very rough out there. The Italy red card was completely justified as he was stupid to do that. The straight red for the USA was a two footed tackle thathit the guy in his ankle and to me that is a straight red also. The other guy got 2 yellow cards and should have been more careful. I thought the US done well to hold Italy to a draw but Italy have not played well so far and will not go much further this time. Yes the US got lucky with the own goal but they were also really unlucky with the offside goal.
I do not blame the referee for the red cards at all.

The US did put out a valiant effort against a bunch of Italian pretty boys who fell to the ground grabbing their shins and whining literally within the first ten seconds of the match.

De Rossi's penalty deserved a red card and got one. He also deserves to never play another international match again for such thuggary. The US had nearly the same number of shots despite being down a man most of the match and we're ridiculously called for nearly twice the number of fouls because the Italians dive whenever someone breathes on them.

I think you just hate the US because you hate Bush. Well, there's a lot of us in the US who can't stand our government, but we hope to enter international sports based on the game and national pride - not the idiotic decisions of bad governments. Otherwise, I'd root vociferously against Iran.

Also, you misquote the ABC commentators. They never said the US is one of the great soccer nations. They constantly referred to Italy as the great soccer nation. The red cards were ridiculous (at least Mastroeni's was), and the very referee was suspended in 2002 for irregularities after review from the FIFA referee's committee. That mean's other referees watched his abilities and said his calls were unusual. He should not have been invited back to officiate in a World Cup if he's already been suspended.
And finally, I'll reiterate: The US played a better team with fewer men and outplayed them. It's as simple as that. That's why even the Italian team said that the US played with heart while they didn't play their best game.

Get over your nastiness, root for the team you want to win, and stop being so nasty.

right on !, a two footed tackle is an automatic red card.

the U.S. never even scored a goal,Italy had to score it
for them.

their coach should a been shown a german police cell
for the language he used at the ref, and the ref was right !

but then again they claim alexander graham bell was an american
and everybody and their dog knows he was born in scotland
making him british, not ameraican at alll,

and their commentators thought they were callin a baseball game.

Just what the hell is wrong with all the americans anyways......
they think they can shove thier beliefs down everbody throats
and they think they own the free world.......

what losers.........................................................................

Biased commentators are a part of every nation, even england, but its funny to note the sort of explainations the give, and make an issue out of nothin....really sad!

I like Ramiz Raja commentary, he is one of the honest n unbiased umpire.Technical words in English commentary makes him differ from other commentators. Yes you are right , Hate Gavaskar and Ravi shahtri commentary. I Hate Russel commentary too from the start to end of the innings he only talks about SL players

And that is exactly why I don't watch world sporting events on US TV. Way too much bias. Same thing happens in the Olympics. I have been watching the games here in Canada on TSN/Sportsnet and they have been showing the world feed.
