Did the old lady in the beginning of the movie still have the diamond or is it at the bottom of the ocean? The whole plot of the movie was to find out where the diamond is, wasnt it?. I got too tired to watch any more after them being on the plank in the drink.

The old woman threw it off the bow of the research ship at the end of the movie - which I thought was one of the stupidest & meanest things she could do; she knew the guy in charge of the expedition had been searching for that necklace all along & when he found her picture in the safe he was looking for the necklace. Why didn't she just let him have it? It wouldn't have cost her anything & would have made him very happy. But she was a selfish old bat thru & thru & tossed if off the boat into the drink. I guess after it shows her in bed & she's dreaming of being reunited with all of the dead folks on Titanic that we're to assume she died in her sleep after losing the diamond; at least, that's what I though the ending meant. Dreary movie - my fav part was the re-creations of the Titanic interiors - it must have been just gorgeous!

Well, Rose the old lady still has it.

As an old lady on board of the exploring ship, she dropped the 'Heart of Ocean' back into the ocean in the middle of the night, according to the version I watched.

It's fictional and never existed. The diamond was made up for the movie. It was based on the Hope Diamond.

At the end of the movie "older" Rose, walks to the back of the ship, climbs up on the bottom rail and throws it overboard - fade away to scenes of the necklace tumbling through the water.....

The elderly Rose still had the diamond, is why they did not find it in the safe. At the end of the movie, she tosses it overboard.
