THE NEW SCHOOL PRAYER
This was written by a teen in Baghdad, Arizona.
Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot;
My soul please take!
Amen

A rhetorical question of course!
It's interesting that praying at school is not allowed in the US. It is compulsary in the UK! Schools have to provide a 'daily act of collective worship". Parents have to specifically opt out if they don't want their child to attend the assembly.

see you later as there are tests in college there'll be prayer. you may't replace that. it really is not proper for a instructor to steer scholars in prayer. For one element, the first modification forbids it. for yet another, this usa is so religiously distinct that there is a huge probability the instructor and a number of his scholars would have diverse faiths. Do you retain on with the religion of the instructor (accordingly "preparation" the pupil that the instructor's faith is ideal) or of the pupil (forcing the instructor to make distinct prayers in faiths which they might or would no longer believe in)? Do you've a prayer it really is so obscure it may prepare to any faith (which may recommend that's so obscure it would offend any quite god/goddess listening to it)? Do you waste time sorting out what the religions of all the students in the classification are and then having prayer for each of them daily? Do you're making effective you've ten male Jewish instructors/scholars who've been bar mitzvahed to make up a minyan? maximum appropriate to no longer have any authentic prayer in any respect, quite.

It is not a good poem as prayer in school is not against any rule. you are more than welcomed to pray at school anytime you'd like. The objection is to mandated group prayer. It is not fair to make people pray if it against their beliefs to do so. It will also serve to ostracize those who do not pray the way you do.

In short, that poem sucks out loud.

Yes really good as a poem, in fact it is fantastic as a poem but not a prayer.

I didn't realise it was like that in the USA.

It's a very good poem, but it's not a prayer I'm afraid!

As a prayer most of it is irrelevant. Start from "Lord this silent..." and it would be a prayer.
