Hi This is Nirmal from Microsoft,

Regarding your question, for text file the extenstion is *.txt (that is text), but it is used for some help files or some extra system files, for example, .tx files are used as Photoline5 Help Files and Chaos Desktop Extra Text File (Chaos systems AB), etc.

I hope that answers your question..

If you have any other question, please feel free to contact me, or if I have given any wrong or not appropriate information, please feel free to post a feedback at my email address, that will really help me.

Thanks and regards,
Nirmal
