Stay away from ACER's. My friend works at CompUSA and says those are the very low end models and are the most laptop brought back to the store for either returns or repairs...

Stick with a major brand, such as Sony or HP/Compaq.

Also, stay away from anything made by Dell. They are okay computers, but if you want to add/upgrade/replace a part, you have to order it from them. You can't go to a computer store and buy it from them. This is how they make a profit.

Good luck! And don't forget to buy a warranty of sorts from whom ever you buy it from... You will be glad you did when something goes wrong with your laptop. Peace!

I have repaied many laptops in the past (it's what I do) and my preferences for reliability are compaq and IBM. Toshiba is good but not AS reliable, although cheaper to get parts for.
As for cheap, try to get a used or off lease sstem.

I asked the same question to a friend of mine the other day that keeps up with all of the latest in computer and technology trends. She recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite. They are supposed to be wonderful. I was in WalMart just last night doing a price check (I'm about to buy one) and found that they are only about $650!!

Hope that this helps you out!

The best is "Acer"! It is good-looking, hardworking and so cheap compared to others (about 1000$).
