My computer has a low RAM (192 MB) and operates on Windows XP. And it only has 9.4 GB of total room. I delete cookies and store the minimum of temporary internet files. I defragment every now and then and I have a program that frees up RAM for me, but my computer still runs really slow. Are there any really good suggestions out there?

With WinXP you'd want at least 256MB RAM to run it comfortably for basic tasks.

Anything less (above the minimum requirements) will barely get you by on a clean system used for basic word processing and spreadsheets. When you have to install other programs running in the background like AOL, Yahoo Widgets, antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc. they all incrementally eat away at your free memory.

256MB should give you a noticeable improvement for anything else and it's relatively cheap these days (around $20 or so to upgrade).

No, there isn't any way to make your computer faster for free. There also isn't any way to make your car faster for free. Nor is there any way to make your television larger for free. RAM is cheap, however. Invest in some RAM, and you'll be amazed at the difference.

Also, you have plenty of free space on your hard drive (for Windows to operate efficiently). Just make sure you keep at least 15% of your drive free, or you won't be able to defragment it, and it will get REALLY slow, after awhile.

To improve the performance of your computer , additional rams (double what you have now) and a bigger hard drive(provide more free space) are necessary for XP to function more efficiently . A free way is to downgrade your window operating system say like Window 98 which doesn't require lots of rams and hard disks space for it to run. You didn't mention what CPU you have!

first of all you've got very lil space thats part of the problem, next upgrade ur RAM, that'll be boost the performence, as there'll be mor temp spce for the system to place temp files needed now and then by the system...also disable any unwanted softwares that are running in the background, you'll find them in the system tray thats where the system clock(that tells the time duh!)thats the only way...however for a free, THOUGH a very risky way is to change the microprocessor speed by goign into the BIOS settings by pessing DEL key as the computer starts up.....but i wouldn't suggest that!

the only way to make it go faster is to overclock it through the bios but this will make the CPU run hotter so make sure you have a big fan and heat sink.... you'd also be better off getting someone else to overclock it if you don't know anything about your bios because the wrong settings could damage your CPU or make your computer unusable

Free way is to run linux on it with a GUI similar to windows.

Or you can run win 98 that should speed it up... or run 3.11 - i had a copy of AOL for DOS a while back, i dont think that had internet explorer on it tho.

yeah, try running it with win98 SE. Winxp really needs a lot of memory which can make a slow computer work slower.

Get more RAM. Your RAM bottleneck is killing your performance, and making your CPU hit your (probably) old and slow hard drive.

Best wishes and God bless.

Yes, you need to do a full wipe of the system and it will clear out all the static which is clogging it up.
