It often happens to me. You could have pulled a muscle. It can be quite painful and you cannot turn your head from side to side. The pain will usually last about 2 days and they you are fine. You will also feel like you head is too heavy for your neck.

Or, you may have slept in a strange position. Either way, the pain will go away.

Just regular pain killers will make it a little more bearable, and try and rest your head when you can.

It could be from sitting at the computer too long, bad pillow, many other things.

A thing you can try (that my doctor taught me) is grab a small towel and soak it in warm to hot water (whatever you're comfortable with, without burning yourself). Then put it on the back of your neck, slowly look up, look down, look left, look right to stretch out the muscles. Do it on a regular basis - it solved my neck problems.

Hope it works for you!
