Well, John McCain offered $50/hour to pick lettuce in Yuma, AZ. It isn't the west coast, but you can afford to have a place in San Diego after the harvest season.

In order to relocate there, you must have some sort of visa. The most common would be as an English teacher which requires that you have at least a bachelor's degree in any discipline. Alternately, you could go to school there to study the Japanese language. That would allow you to remain there for the duration of your studies. The only other way that I can think of (short of joining the US military and hoping you get stationed there) is to visit Japan as a tourist and try to find a Japanese spouse while there. That would allow you to remain there indefinitely with the eventual possibility of Japanese citizenship. PS Another answerer said something about working holidays. Working holidays are great for Canadians and citizens of a few other countries but are not open to US citizens.

There are a lot of acting jobs on the west coast that don't require a degree. You should be able to find them without much trouble, pick up a paper when you get there and check the classifieds. However, keep in mind, finding them is much easier than catching them.

It depands on what you call a great job. I have a great job on the west coast and don't have a Bachelors degree.

As another person pointed out, it depends on what you consider "great". You can get jobs, but not necessarily fantastic ones. Those with little or no secondary education tend to top out around $15/hour, unless they are able to get into a union position. But union positions are becoming tougher to find.
