Great question, and one every person who does their own thinking has. Well, I am working on a master's in social work and this is my answer:
Yes, the collective consciousness of man can create anything. Ever heard of mass hysteria? If the entity is created, it does not exist and therefore can't be miserable. We can only perceive it as miserable.
Now, as the why there is such a concept of God. No one has ever seen God. We derive this entity purely from a "holy" book, the bible.
However, we do know Jesus Christ did exist. There are documents that have been carbon dated to that time that have referrences to Christ.
Is he the Son of God? Depends, if there is a God, odds are, probablt not. And if he is, I do not think God nor Jesus would hold it against us if our time on earth was spent being not a disbeliever, but a cautious skeptic.
Skeptical of the culpability (guiltiness) of man. The sad fact is that the gospels of the bible were handed down for hundreds of years by word of mouth before being written on the first papyrus.
Have you ever played this game as a kid: Whisper a sentence in one persons ear and each subsequent person do the same until it gets to the last person who says the sentence they were whispered outloud? It changes, even if a little bit. That is what I whole heartedly believe happened with the texts of the bible.
Do you honestly believe that some ONE person, over the course of a few hundred years, that either forgot and ad-libbed (made up) what they couldn't remember or, if a more devious person, just changed what he thought it should be to suit the needs of the time or, even perhaps, himself? Sounds like a lot of people I know. I don't think we're THAT much different from our ancestors 2000 yrs ago.
My personal belief is that yes, there is a God that made everything. However, I do not believe Jesus is the son of God. Too many hands (King James comes to mind) have been in the bible to make me believe it and I think God, if it is even His work, knows that too and will be grateful that you utilized the critical thinking skills and brain that He gave you.
Why doesn't God help us? Well, keep in mind that He did create everything. There are more stars and planets in the universe than there are grains of sand on earth. You think earth is really the only planet with advanced life on it? Of course you don't, it just doesn't add up. There must be billions upon trillions of them, all with the same desires, wants, needs. One being, all those beings asking questions and needing help and answers. Earth is only special to us. As long as you live your life as a caring person who always strives to do the right thing towards others (including animals), you're fine. God won't hold you responsible for adhereing to some book man ulitmately created. We just won't know 'til we get there as my mammaw used to say. But that's my take on it all. Sorry so lengthy but a question like this deserves a detailed answer.

We can look at this 2 ways. If 95% of people believe in something, there may be some truth behind it. other way is reasoning such as God can't be dis-proved. The further I advance in education, the more deeply i understand the natural world. I can understand how people can dismiss the notion of God. But, when i stop and think for myself, (not what other people's opinions are) God makes sense.
Think about the amount and arrangement of atoms in a protein molecule. then realize if proteins and lipids and water could come together to form a primitive life form by chance, it would perish unless the odds of forming the means to reproduce at the same time were in it's favor.
Don't get me wrong i believe things happen by chance; but the shear complexity of some things make you think deeper. There are forces in the universe we don't know much about.

Some suggest that "education" is merely participation in a form of status-oriented brainwashing-- so your lack thereof does not reduce your respectability in my view--
Regarding the question-- WE are the God in question: we create our course here on Earth with every thought, every breath, every decision. To entertain the idea that we were created by a higher power negates any other conclusion than the obvious: we ARE part of the creative process, and very well may be controlling it, at least on THIS plane or dimension of awareness.
When you further suggest that God (as some name this force), has created ALL, then we may extend by reason that "all" might include levels of existence that we have no active awareness of, such as a plane of existence reserved for angelic beings, for example.
One thing's for sure: the game is more complex than many imagine, and far less cause for worry than many suffer over...

Man is fallible. Why would man create and worship a God that he created? This makes Zero sense. God is God and HE alone created man. If you seek the truth about this start seeking and the Bible is a great place to start. Following your logic...does it makes sense to believe that a beautiful painting just happened? Or does it make more sense that someone painted and created it? Wherever there is art there is an Artist. Wherever there is a building there is an architect etc...Hence wherever there is a creation there is a creator. Think about that. Hope you find your answers! Take care.

There is a part of the brain that is referred to as the God Spot and allegedly this is what we use to contact a Higher Power. The current race of humans on this planet was developed by another race that came to Earth. They took an early form of human hominid and changed the Dna to become their servants and workers. When you think back to an ancient time, if an early form of man saw a UFO landing, he might think that it was a God coming to Earth. Comets were worshipped as well-Quetzelcoatel of the South American continent. The current Adamic Race of Biblical terms is mentioned in the Epic of Gilgamesh and in the Eneuma Elish taken from the Library of Ashur Banipal, ancient Sumerian King

certainly greater, lesser and equaly educated people have all had such thoughts. The universal force and power of a higher power or God is quensential to human psychology in being a spiritual creature. Humanity thinks and Biblicaly the mind is the spirit. Thus belef becomes the foundation
of religion to govern humanity and be a lucrative business. Faith in the power or God of your creation is the seperation of spirituality from religion in your relationship with the creator that you believe in your mind that liberates you in independant thought and power.

From the point of view of existence, God has created man and from the point of view of knowledge, man has created God. One must make a distinction between different points of view in order to avoid confusion.
