Technically, as many people who gain weight, lose it. Take a lower hormone pill, like Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. I think most of the weight goes to the breasts and hips if you are going to gain any. Most oral contraceptives contain estrogen which promotes weight gain to those areas.

BCPs have so many advantages besides preventing pregnancy if taken correctly and faithfully. They can reduce the risks of types of breast cancer and ovarian cancer/cysts as well as clear your skin and keep your bones healthy. You will have lighter, less painful periods that are well regulated. This is good for heavy bleeders who could become anemic from the loss of blood each month.

If you do not want/plan to get pregnant, never rely on the cycle method, where you try to figure out when you ovulate and avoid those days. It's around only 50% effective. They same with "pulling out" or withdrawal, it's about 55%. There can be sperm in pre-ejaculate that may not be swimming but definetly still have DNA and can make it to the egg. Condoms break, but are 98% effective when used correctly. Don't rely on the guys, rely on yourself to stay safe.

Take your pill at the same time everyday and alongside an activity that you do daily, so that you can remember. If you are taking a progesterone only pill, this is extremely important. The combo pills have a little more flexibility with exact times.

Also, during the first few months, you may be dizzy from the extra hormones, since hormones affect everything we do. It helps to take it in the evening and with meals. You can take Dramamine or another motion sickness medicine to aid in reducing the effects.

I've had the Ortho Tri Cyclen pill and gained weight. I've been on the patch and gained weight. And I've been on the Depo Provera shot and not gained any weight at all.

It all depends on how it reacts to your body. The chemicals react to different people in different ways.

It all depends on the dosage.
Im on a low dosage pill (only 30 micrograms) and i have not put on any weight due to the pill. Ive been on this one for 5years.
However my older sister went on the pill which was roughly double the dosage of mine and she put on about 5kgs.
