You cannot just take one birth control pill and not get pregnant. You have to take them for a period of time. This will allow them to get into your system. If you are having thoughts of having sex anytime soon I would use a condom. This way you will definitely prevent anything unwanted. As for stopping the pill and damaging your system I do not think that is true, but you can go to the website I have provided and read up on it some more.

Birth control pills only work if you use them for a month, as per the isntructions, and may only start working after the second consecutive month of use. To take it once would be pointless. Yes, it may harm your hormones - the sudden spike in hormonal levels caused by the pills can cause early ovulation (the opposite of the effect you were looking for) and funny menstrual cycles.

Other birth control methods are available for one-off occasions. Use the method which is better for you, and dont forget that condoms also protect you from sexually transmitted diseases...

I am going to assume you are a young lady. Think very long and hard about having any sex at all. You may think you are in love or that it is the only way you can keep your bf. The real thing is if your bf does not respect you enough to forego sex before being married then he is simply treating you like a lump of coal. Young ladies are like fine gems -- a diamond. Beautiful and bright. You are very much of value to yourself, your parents and friends. To take a stand that you wish to maintain that fine gem quality then you need to remain "clean and pure" and not let yourself be treated as a piece of coal. You see a piece of coal is just a rock. A diamond is of value forever. Think more of yourself than just another rock to be tossed over into a bin as used goods.
To answer your question --- See a doctor and follow his advice. He will tell you about all the things that can go wrong with taking the pill. He will tell you if you are healhy enough to take the pill. He will also tell you about STD's including hepititis, HIV, herps, gonorria, calmidia and a host of others.
Take pride in yourself and be a respectable diamond.

You can't use birth control pills for protection on an incidental basis. You must take the pills for a period of time before you are protected, and you should not start-stop-start-stop. If you want protection for one encounter, use a condom.

Use a condom or The Sponge. They are available at drugstores. The pill, you have to take it 30 days prior to unprotected sex. One pill will not work.
