What do you think about Freud's thoughts on personality development? Do you agree that an abused child (within the first 5 years of life) will be affected later in life with their personality? What do you think on his beliefs of unconscious fears and feelings? What do you think about his psychosexual stages?

So much of what Freud thought and expoused had to do with psycho-sexual stuff it's no wonder so many people, after years in therapy, suddenly found themselves with these "represssed memories" of molestation, etx... They were all seeing Freudians. I do agree that an abused child, even as young as 3-5, will have a hard road regardless of how much "help" or love he is given later in life..when taken out of the situation. Re; the unconscious/conscious... states.. well. I'm not all that clear on his craziness.. it does seem to me that freud had an excuse for bad behaviours,, and, it almost always went back to mama.. Perhaps, in his case, this was it:. perhaps people need to take ownership of their actions rather than giving it all up to Mama!

Well don't forget 2 things- Freud was kinda a wierdo anyway and plus the times were different back then....therefore, his logic sometimes made more sense in those times. It's kinda like how everything with Freud relates to sex. The reason has to do with the time period when the topic of sex was not spoken of. It's hard for me to explain. A lot of psychologists don't follow his exact theories anymore but they still will use his basic ideas and apply them to other things.

Well of course a child will be affected by abuse. In general I think Frued was an oversexed weirdo. Ladies hats and testicles? C-sections and windows? give me a break!
