Sometimes, when I wake up in the morning, my eyes will open but I'm unable to move! I try and I try - nothing happens! I can see things around me moving in real time but I can't interact with them! I feel as though I'm paralyzed! Why is this? Does anyone else experience this?

Many people experience what your going through, but not many people talk about it.
Back in olden times they called your experience a "night Hag" That paralyzing feeling caused by "Her sitting on your body and holding you down"
It's a thing of child hood past... not many people talk about that theory anymore, although it is in some books!

Now, as far as going to a Dr. It may be a good Idea to talk to him..he might want to do some tests, but most likely he will tell you it's normal and to not worry about it..it happens to everyone..I've had it happen many times!! It is not a fun experience..usually it will go away right away.. the longest one i have had is like a few minutes actually!!! THAT WAS AWFUL!!!

when it happens to me it's helpful to relax and stay calm.. i usually imagine my self "fighting it off" and that usually works. try moving your upper body before anything else that has always seemed to help me out too. if anything talk to your Dr. if you feel necessary..then try looking it up and doing a little research who knows what you might find!!

Yeah, on some occasions, worst when the time is hot. Its somewhat a form of paralysis, but nothing serious or major, as long as you can move up and down in due time. Sometimes, you are in a sub-conscious mode too, because as you are just waking, your mind is in the process of becoming functional, but less faster than normal. There is nothing too wrong with that, and all you need is some Vitamin B, Ginseng Capsules, and Cod Liver Oil/Capsules before heading to bed. That will not only build yout strength, but also to get your brain functioning - in bed and out of bed. I tried those tablets, and they do help.
If any luck, drop a line. Let me know. And whatever you do, rest comfortably. :)

Relax everybody!
Nothing is wrong. When we sleep our bodies become immobilized to prevent us from flipping all over the place while dreaming. It's totally normal. Your brain has awoken and opened your eyes before the rest of you has agreed to wake up. You may have noticed that your hearing was not working right either. Hearing sensitivity is reduced so that we don't wake up at every little sound including our own snoring.

I've never personally experienced this, but I did read about it a while back in an article about lucid dreaming (dreaming in which you realize you are dreaming and are able to control what occurs in your dream). I believe that the article said that if this were to happen, that it would be much easier than usual to slip directly from consciousness to a dream state, and that you would be more likely to realize you were dreaming and take control. I'm not sure what validity that holds, but perhaps you should give it a try!

You might wanna talk to a doctor about that. I have no clue what's happening to you. Never happened to me. Sometimes when I wake up I cant use my hands, like they are paralyzed, but they aren't asleep. That's the only thing thats close to what happens to you that I've had happen to me.

You are still experiencing the body paralysis that happens to all of us when we fall asleep and dream. Yes, this has happened to me. Also, I have woken up and am aware of everything going on around me, and yet I am still dreaming! I have had out of body experiences, where my spiritual body floats out of my half asleep body and bounces around the house. You are not weird, you are not alone.
Look up astral projection- you will find out alot.
Also, at times when this happened and I was really scared, I would think in my head "help me God"- and the paralysis would stop immediately.

I have experienced this a few times and it was scary, felt like i couldn't move or really wake up. I just kept saying JESUS,JESUS,JESUS and it went away. I'm curious to what caused this too. Good Question. I'll be watching your answers.

Thats the hag or what a lot of people call it. I'm sure there is a medical name for the phenomena. It used to happen to me all the time.

Check it out here...

I've had it happen to where I am fully awake and can hear everything, but can't open my eyes or move. It's kinda scary. If you ever find out what causes this please post!
