How is it that really fat people can collect disability?

I have known a few fat people 250lbs+ who get to collect disability just for being fat but they blame it on back problems or some sh*t.
It just goes to show how lazy they are and so they get a handout for eating and laying around.

No, that is not true. Fat people dont want to be fat. It could be hormonal, it could be metabolism or whatever. Its like telling an autistic kid that he is not reading or concentrating enough, and thats what makes him autistic. Obesity really is a medical issue. Its not as easy as starving yourself or running everyday.
It is harderer for some to lose wt than the others. You can critize the policy to hand out money to these guys, but calling them lazy isnt fair... ITS SHALLOW!!

I'm with bree on this. I would understand if some of those ppl really were lazy and abusing the system but you appear to have made no attempt at trying to understand their situation.

You mentioned yourself.. knee problems... This means that they do have some sort of actual medical problem preventing them from being physically able to work. It seems irrelevant that these medical problems occurred due to obesity because they do exist.

I personally don't like the idea either but I think there are a lot of other reasons for this rather than fat ppl just wanting a free ride. For example, if we have universal healthcare then a lot of uninsured obsese ppl could get help with it. Also, a lot of doctors won't prescribe perfectly acceptable drugs that aid in weight loss. I have no clue why they won't but had a friend ask once for help and his doc said no.

People with chronic pain eat a lot sometimes and cannot exercise, just for example. The persons you are talking about were examined by physicians assigned by i guess social security and met all of the requirements for their disability. Since you have no training as an MD and since you have never seen their medical records or formally done any examination, why do you think your diagnosis of their condition is the correct one. Sounds like just a vicious rumor on your part when you make this allegation without any basis in facts. What do you think? Are you vicious and mean spirited? I think you are. Just my opinion.

there is always a reason behind the fat. some cases are pure laziness. but definitely NOT ALL! how ignorant of you to presume that all fat people are lazy!

NOBODY can collect disability or SSI without there being hard medical proof to back it up. disability is the hardest benefit in this country to be granted. they have so many evaluations and scrutinies, that are all put there to prevent fraud. if you believe these people to be in fact guilty of fraud then report them, there's a reward for valid cases of fraud reported!

in disabled people, the fat usually comes after the disability. find yourself physically incapable of doing your whatever it is that keeps you going, and you will soon turn to a heap of pudding yourself. especially if you have a very physical job and suffer an injury that forbids you from ever doing that job again. in one year, you'll look like you've spent ten years on the sofa in front of the tv. guaranteed.

some people, by the nature of their weight can get SSI just because they're morbidly obese. that is obese enough for it to threaten your life. that's usually about 350 and up on an average frame. many people qualify for the surgeries, but their healthcare won't cover it. there are medications that again, healthcare won't cover. there all these medical advances for large people, but only the priveliged few afford them.

First of all, you are ignorant because you ASSUME they're fat from over-eating or they're lazy! YOU DON'T KNOW why people are fat. For some it's metabolism, or medication making them gain weight... They don't all overeat and they're not all laying around. If you knew ANYTHING, you'd know that much. Don't go around showing how ignorant you can be. And don't criticize what you don't understand.

They say it's glands or a slow metabolism but they should not get disability it's like the gov. is paying them for eating to much and they get some good bucks to put them in a spacial hospital and make them pay for it themselves if they don't pay kick the out and give them nothing then they'll lose wt!!

they get disabilities insurance because they can't get around at all!you need to have a heart and maybe join a obesity anonomous and talk to some obese people see what they say.just a thought!

It is because really fat people are worthless sacks of human debris and they get what they deserve. Since you can't say that publicly, we give them hand outs and hope they don't sit next to us on airplanes.
