What should you make sure to bring with you when going away to college for the first time?

a foam pad to place over the mattress, a mini fridge to keep snacks in, a tv, a word processor/computer, medicines like aspirin, pain reliver, neosporin, bandaids, gauze, scissors, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, a good pillow, blankets, a small heater, movies, condoms, plenty of clothes, hygiene items, disks to save your homework, an alarm clock, your stereo, id, medical cards, emergency phone numbers, hangers, disinfectant wipes and spray, a small dry erase board/markers to hang on your door for messages.

A bucket load of determination. Be determined to not skip class .. no matter what your friends want to talk you into .. no matter how late you let yourself stay up the night before .. no matter that you didn't finish your homework and may be called on to explain it .. no matter that you will miss your new favorite soap opera where they are about to FINALLY reveal that Josh really is Erica's son! And a lot of determination to keep the end goal in mind, every day, no matter what. There are an infinite number of things that will come up that could detour you .. do not let them. Stay the course; make wise choices; you may not be the funnest, coolest guy on the block .. but at least you will get what you are there for. Being a student is your number one job. Act as though there is someone watching your performance each day who has the ability to fire you if they don't think you are cutting it. Don't do anything that would get you fired. Oh, yeah .. and have a little fun along the way.

some clothes, Computer, Reference books such as dictionary ect. Some things that remind you of home, all your toiletries,ect You will know more of what you need once you get there but don''t bring anthing you highly value that is one of a kind and having a list and making sure everything is marked is important becuase someone might steal stuff. I put in addition to my name a secret symbol on my stuff so I know it's mine so if they erase my name they do not know about the symbol.

For stuff you'll NEED:

-- Shower shoes

-- LOTS of toiletries, you'll run out at just the wrong time

-- School supplies like folders, notebooks, pencils, pens, etc. so the bookstore doesn't murder you with their overpricing

-- Calculator; you'll need to take at least one math class

-- At least two sets of sheets

-- Digital camera, mp3 player, entertainment stuff

This is just the stuff you may forget, other stuff is pretty common sense (like a computer if you have one, clothes, backpack...)

As for stuff that you think you'll need but really don't:

-- Lamps or halogen lights

-- Microwave (if you need one, almost all dorms have one on each floor)

Just a short list. Of course if you're a girl, you'll need at least 3 times this much crap and all kinds of other stuff.

Lots of underwear, an address book with names numbers and addresses of family and friends,something that reminds you of home......a stuffed animal, a pillow a blanket. Pics of family and friends and a fresh attitude. You never know what will happen so keep your mind open and meet new friends and of course learn something. Best wishes.
