There are many applications and processes that you could use to rid your computer of annoying hassleware (just coined) BUT what you really want to do is to prevent (as much as possible) from this crap getting into your PC(s) in the first place.

My tips:

1. Do not use Internet Explorer 6 (or below). IE has hazy security and allows this crap to be installed. Use an alternative web browser. Firefox, Flock, or Opera.
2. There are many applications that remove adware, such as AdAdware. Do a search, read some reviews and choose something you like. Make sure to download the updates on a regular basis and perform regular scans.
3. Use something other that Outlook for email such as Mozilla Thunderbird.

You must understand that since the majority of the PCs in the world use Microsoft products, they are the frequent target of scams, viruses and other hassleware. That, combined with the security holes present in some of the software only increases venerability to this stuff.

Other stuff (more complicated, more money, more time)

Use an alternative operating system other than Windows, such as Linux (free as in freedom and price) or Mac OS X. Spyware problems, common viruses and other hassleware do not exist on these systems. Don't believe me? Search around and ask experienced users.

I have used Linux on the desktop religiously for the last couple of years (currently using Ubuntu) and I simply don't have these problems.

Hope this info helps or enlightens you or someone else.

Avast has a virus cleaner. You have to have the free home edition anti-virus software though. I really like this one. I had a win32.sasser on mine and it washed it right out and restored some files. My PC is running smoother now. It also has a kick a$$ database update. The only thing that it doesn't seem to be compatible with is the Adaware software. But that is because it is a data miner. AND on the plus side of things, both the anti-virus and the cleaner are totally free. Yeah, I have the Adaware SE on my computer too. But you can set it up to accept the program as safe file.

Some weeks ago I had a problem with my computer, it was slowing down and i couldn't explain why some websites where redirecting! Since I had a good (norton) antivirus system I did not think that I had spyware! , however a friend of mine came to my house and immediately told me that I had a spyware program, he entered into a site downloaded one of the free programs featured there and installed it on my computer, after running this program my computer is fast and downloading normally, whilst my homepage was also restored.

the webpage where you can find free reliable anti spyware is:

I have my comp covered well. I haven't had any problems since. Try these sites out. They're free. 1 is for spyware, another for adware, and the other here is the best ever antivirus for free and I haven't had anymore worries about my computer since. It's like having bodyguards or bouncers for your computer. God bless! :)

there are a lot of spyware removal tool, I like the one that comes with the Yahoo toolbar the best. Still it might not remove all of them, no tool is full proof, but it will tell you the name(s) of the ones it cant remove and then you can search the internet for instructions on manually removing them
