Why dont more people hug ?

I'm curious to this as well. I came from a hugging family. I am 24 and I hug my dad every time i see him. Its just a level of closeness that we have. I sometimes feel a little weird in public hugging him at my age, but still its what we do, it shows love. I don't care what the public thinks. With my friends, I think it would be better for a hug rather than the hand shake and fist pound deal...it would show the really level of caring for your friends. But to answer your question: Americans are a bunch of homophobic and ignorant people. Other countries hug and kiss. They are not gay, it's custom. Men and their damn masculinity complexes are to blame.

Well as a man,...

I hug a lot of my girl-friends (that is girls who are friends), I've always done so, well at least since my stint in the theatre and now I always do it. But only the ones that are comfortable with it, there are some girl who just don't like hugs period.

I don't really hug my guy friends, unless it's a big occasion (wedding, leaving the country) kind of thing. When it comes to men the handshake just feels more appropriate for me. I will hug my brother, and my father when he was alive.

I guess it's a comfort thing. We live in a very judgmental and bigoted age, you'll notice one of the answers to this question has already said "it makes you look gay."

I don't know, but I'm not a real huggy person, I don't like to be touched. The only ones that I hug are my parents, my kids, and my boyfriend.
Matter of fact, you would be lucky if you got a handshake from me.

why dont more people hug because people dont no how much it makes other people feal it would make me feal happey and special in side my heart you should get all the hugs from a special some one in your life.

Because it seem really weird when you hug in public with the whole gay concept thing going on. no offense to anyone. really. when u hug in public people tend to think ur gay. which is really mean.

i work in a supermarket and i hug some of my longtime customers too, i think of them as my friends too
