Ask your family doctor if they do pap tests at their office. Most family doctors are doing this now, at least in Canada, and that will save you from going to a gynocologist. It would be good to have a pap test, whether you are sexually active or not. Your doctor will know your family history, and can tell you if you should come back every year for one, or every few years until you are sexually active. If your family doctor can do the pap tests, he will only send you on to a gynocologist if he finds something that would cause him to worry, or something that is beyond his area of expertise.

You usually do not need to go to a gynecologist until you are sexually active or experience some kind of feminine infection. But is best to visit the gynecologist if you PLAN on becoming sexually active because you have to take birth control for one month before it is effective. So this means if you get on the pill you have to also use a condom or other forms of contraceptives in addition to the pill for the first month. Most girls don't know that and that is such an important fact that Seventeen and Cosmo Girl never get around to covering. Hope this helped.

It's not bad, but you should start seeing a gyno by age 18. Some suggest you should start seeing one as soon as you begin menstrating. And for some girl that's like 10!!! Yikes! Even if you are not sexually active, it's still a good idea to get checked out.

ok sorry. The mind now and again takes all the enter from Y/A and welds it mutually into one large mush. this can be a form of days. absolutely the worst medical advice i have considered on right here ever, and because that that's a mind mush day i visit't undergo in thoughts at the same time as it replaced into, probable eons in the past...yet are you waiting? Neosporin for mange. Um yeah. no. I also could say, at the same time as i'm unhappy for the animals of those who will bypass with the most asinine (see, spelled it proper this time i desire), advice conceivable and refuse to take the canines to the vet, what makes me even better offended for some reason, are the vendors who've googled their canines's indications and make a analysis, come right here and ask a thanks to administration it, then actually refuse to take heed to the different opportunities. All in the call of saving some money (or hundred money, thoughts) on the vet. effective, by ability of now, i have forgotten the ailments they have arise with yet they are frequently the most uncommon issues that would probable answer the symptom puzzle. The very last a form of I undergo in thoughts replaced into in the cat area. glaring URI replaced into clinically determined as allergies. ok allergies is conceivable, inspite of the actual undeniable truth that uncommon in cats, yet given the cat's recent heritage, it replaced into for sure better probable a URI. And besides... if the cat DID have allergies does no longer any sane human being take the cat to the vet? now and again I merely could make a cuppa and say "WTF?" (Oh I undergo in thoughts between the canines ones. some ailment that I had to scour the depths of the veterinary library to locate any element out of, it replaced into so uncommon, for a canines with pruritis. and he or she'd be damned if she replaced into going to the vet... or settle for a less demanding answer which includes fleas or hypersensitive reactions. because a ailment that perchance 2 canines have had in the previous, and for this reason even vets will be stumped by ability of it, is way better appropriate than, say, mange.) ARRRRGH! (Rayven, why do you ask such issues? lol)

Your family medicine doc can usually handle most issues, including your yearly pap. The first OB/GYN I ever saw was when I was pregnant at 20. Before that, I'd always had all of my check-ups and paps done at my regular doc's office.
It's a personal preference type of thing unless you have a gynecological issue or a pregnancy. That is when you really SHOULD see an OB/GYN.

It's not bad, but not great, either. Your doctor needs to see you at a healthy state. Cervical, ovarian, and uterine cancer are not just the realm of 'older women'. You should get at least a baseline pap test now. Cervical changes can happen in mere months. If you are sexually active, you definitely should be getting a pap test once a year. Your doctor can also detect changes in breast tissue; breast exams are important, too.
Don't listen to those who say, "If you're not sexually active...."; I just read a story about a girl who died from cervical cancer at age 23.

As long as you are not sexually active you should be o.k. but it is time to go anyway (usually 18). You should not have anything to worry about but it is a good habit to get into (going to the gyno) just to make sure there are not any existing problems also if you have future problems you will already be established with a doc.

They say that you should start having pap smears when you become 18 or when you first become sexually active. That is just so they can make sure you don't have STD's, etc. However, I did not go until I was 20, and I was fine. So, unless you're having unprotected sex, I would not worry about it.

If you're sexually active, then you should definitely see a gynecologist for yearly exams & pap smears. If you're not, then it still might be a good idea to go just to get checked out anyways. A lil advise...go to a place that warms the instruments.
