You can go to any store and find stuff with a "goth" twist, or things you can alter to look goth. As for shopping at Hot Topic, who cares, if you see something you like there just get it. The thing is you're never really going to find good "goth" store, most of them have really over priced clothes that are poorly made or make you look like every other goth. There are some good stores out there but they're extremely hard to find and a lot of times the only way you find them is through word of mouth. I've found good jeans at Hot Topic or Anchor Blue, and I don't care that I bought them there. If I like them and they're a good price then I'm getting them no matter what. The problem is that a lot of goth people like to talk bad about these stores when they themselves either shop there or started shopping there in the beginning. I'm not saying these are particularly good stores, because most of the stuff they sell is horrible, but you shouldn't shy away from them because other goths tell you you should shop where they do because it will make you more goth (which I think is hilarious). Truth be told most other goth stores, including on-line stores sell the same brands that hot-topic do and sometimes for more because it makes some people feel like if they paid more for their outfit they will more goth. Just be creative and you will find stuff in a lot of stores.

When I was a goth, I loved the dark links site. They have a good clothing section of links. Avoid hot topic!

Well, if you don't mind shopping mail-order from England, there's Drac In A Box. It's... about what'd you'd expect, from the name... http://www.dracinabox.com/home.htm Make sure to convert the price from pounds to dollars (It has a link to a conversion program).
