Ok, the game was incrediable with USA holding their own with only 9 players, but what was up with that ref!?! I heard that there was some controversey behind him in the first place, but I cant really remember what it was. Will someone justify (or rant with me) that first USA red card?

The US red card wasn't a card at all. It was just dumb. That ref sucked. I think he wanted US to lose. But we still managed to hold on to get the draw.(not that it helps much b\c that puts even more pressure on our game v. Ghana) But that just makes it more interesting. It did show that we're not a bunch of push overs,even if the Italians were playing with 10 and looked like a completely different team than I've ever seen from them.

I heard that he was one of the 5 refs who were banned from international games in 2000 for irregular judgements.
If you are not a U.S. fan (I am a U.S. fan), you would agree with the first U.S red card because he did not play the ball. Instead, he tackled with both his legs and the ref saw it very closely and clearly.
Well, second red card. Pheww...I saw him he just realized after he showed the yellow card that he already showed one yellow to Pope in first half. (I saw him check his card and his face changed.) Then he had no choice that he had to show the red card. That's really stupid at world cup level. FIFA did a bad job picking the referees. FIFA only cares about money.

USA holding only 9 players and italy also honding 10 players but match between two country will be equal 0-0

if you tackle a player like that moron you are gonna be sent away. The ref was bad but the Americans were awful too.When are they going to understand that soccer is not just trying to kick the ball forward at all cost. And this mediocre team is ranked 5th in the world!!! Time for the us soccer fans to realize that their team sucks
